Squamish, BC / Drive to Vancouver, BC

Sunday, September 4

It was another beautiful day in the Pacific Northwest – another great day for a hike. We broke camp and drove up the road a little bit to find Alice Lake and the Four Lakes Trail in Squamish. It was a nice British Columbia provincial park with a pretty trail connecting Stump Lake, Fawn Lake, Edith Lake and Alice Lake. Look at this gorgeous Pacific Northwest forest!

And these cool, funky fungi.

(A mushroom walks into a bar. The bartender says, “Hey – I gotta ask ya to leave. We don’t serve mushrooms. The mushroom replies, “Why not, man? I’m a fun-gi.”)

And now back to my blog …

Here is a shot of peaceful and beautiful Alice Lake.

After our pretty hike, we climbed back in the van for the just-over-an-hour’s drive down to the Vancouver area. I had always heard so much beautiful stuff about Vancouver – I was really looking forward to this city.

Odometer check: the van hit 24,000 on this drive.

At the campsite on the southern side of Vancouver, we were outside at our picnic table looking at our map and having a pre-dinner snack. A guy walked by and said, “Hello, Fellow Trekkie.”

The gentleman, David, stopped to explain that he and his wife, Gretchen, are from southwest Ontario and were just up two rows from us on the campsite in their own 1999 Roadtrek.

They were great folks and lots of fun, and we ended up spending the evening with David and Gretchen. We sipped a few glasses of wine and never did get to our respective dinners, but had a great chat about a lot of things I cannot exactly remember. There is a very strong Roadtrek community out there! It’s been a lot of fun meeting my fellow Trekkies. J

Started Book 5 of Potter (Order of the Phoenix), off to bed and ready to explore Vancouver tomorrow.
